“The only real thing is memory.”
This film marks my return to Portugal after five years away, coming back to study cinematography. Walking through Alfama—a place deeply tied to my sense of home - I was confronted with how much it had changed. Overexposed and reshaped by time and tourism, the neighborhood felt strangely distant, almost unreal. The camera became a way to navigate that dissonance, searching for what remains when the familiar no longer fully exists, and when memory begins to feel more tangible than the present.
